It wouldn’t necessarily be accurate to say the last few years have been quiet for sororal musical trio Haim: The band has spent a lot of time in recent years working within the Taylor Swift-industrial complex, appearing on Swift’s Eras Tour and in her music videos. But it has been a minute—excepting 2023’s Barbie contribution “Home”—since the band released new music, something Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim acknowledged in a series of social media posts this week, stating “We are back baby, we are fucking back” and announcing an upcoming new single, “Relationships.”

Haim has reportedly been working on a fourth studio album (a follow-up to 2020’s Women In Music Pt. III) since at least 2023, although we’ve heard pretty much none of that music until now. That appeared to change five days ago, when the band made an Instagram post of themselves lip-syncing along to a new song that, if we had to guess, is probably “Relationships,” what with it calling out “Fuckin’ relationships.” Today, the group formally announced the single, accompanied by a photo that certainly looks like the three sisters are recreating that one Nicole Kidman photo that everyone assumes is about her getting divorced from Tom Cruise, but which she would like to remind you is actually just from a movie. Which is sort of a piece with the whole not-especially-serious vibe of this rollout, which also includes videos of the three sisters rocking out to M83, flipping off the camera, and dropping to their knees in prayer while the text “praying for [eggplant emoji]” appears underneath them.

Of course, what hasn’t been included is concrete information about when the new single (or, god help us, an album) will actually arrive, but at least the struggling eggplant farmers of America will enjoy the promotional boost.
