But barring another successful appeal, Judge Curtis Farber’s sentence of 15 years in prison will likely mean the once-ubiquitous 74-year-old Hollywood power broker will spend the rest of his life behind bars. The former executive has spent the last six-plus years locked up after a truly horrifying number of women (including actors Ashley Judd, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan and others) accused Weinstein of various sexual offenses dating back decades. The 2020 New York conviction was overturned based on “egregious errors” by the judge in that case, who, it was determined, allowed unrelated testimony of Weinstein’s “loathsome character” to color the jury’s deliberations.
As Variety reports, Haley told the judge at Weinstein’s latest sentencing that she never imagined she’d “be standing here again six years after [Weinstein’s first] conviction,” adding that the ongoing trauma of the proceedings have been “draining and unpleasant,” and that she endured years of not only demeaning treatment from Weinstein’s lawyers, but also threats and harassment online. District Attorney Nicole Blumberg had sought a 20 year sentence, citing Weinstein’s complete lack of remorse and history of victim-blaming, including during a 2025 from-prison podcast interview with inveterate victim-blamer Candace Owens.
Convicted sex offender Weinstein now faces a separate resentencing in California face for raping Italian model and actor Evgeniya Chernyshova in 2013. And while it’s unclear if that sentence will run concurrently or consecutively to the New York verdict, Weinstein’s age and litany of reported health issues all but guarantee he won’t be free to abuse anyone else.
