Tired of uttering “always the plaintiff, never the defendant” around his prison cell, Harvey Weinstein is using what little strength and money he has left to sue his brother and former producing partner, Bob. Harvey filed a lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court on Saturday, accusing Bob and other business partners of defrauding him of millions of dollars. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the suit claims Harvey guaranteed a $45 million loan from AI International Holdings to support the Weinstein Company, Harvey and Bob’s post-Miramax production and distribution company. But the suit claims the money wasn’t used for the Weinstein Company. Instead, Bob Weinstein, Weinstein Company executive David Glasser, and other executives “enriched themselves and strategically undermined” Harvey. Harvey believes he was “deceived by those closest to him” and left “holding the bag” while his brother, Glasser, and others were “lining their pockets,” with Bob and Glasser negotiating with AI International behind Harvey’s back and saddling the beleaguered mogul with a $30 million tab. Harvey seeks compensatory and punitive damages for the misallocations.
