HBO’s The Leftovers will relocate to Austin for its second season
Like a hip twentysomething who loves music festivals, trendy movie theaters, and humidity, HBO’s The Leftovers is moving to Austin, Texas for its second season. The show—which is based on the book by Tom Perrotta—has been going through some behind-the-scenes turmoil since its first season ended, with most of the cast disappearing in some kind of mysterious event. (No, but really, they were all fired.)
Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Christopher Eccleston, and Carrie Coon are all still expected to return when the show does, but, for some reason, they’ll all have moved from a small town in New York to Texas. That’s because production of the show is moving to Austin, and therefore, the setting of the show will also change. That comes from TVLine, which says the show probably won’t actually take place in Austin, but it apparently will acknowledge the new setting and not try to pass off Texas as New York.
If things don’t work out for The Leftovers in Austin, look for it to move its production to Portland or San Francisco next year.
