Here’s your last chance to see Daniel Johnston live
Seeing singer-songwriter and Austin legend Daniel Johnston in concert has always been a rare opportunity, as his struggles with mental illness prevent him from performing live all that often. And according to Stereogum, the 56-year-old has just announced a series of tour dates that he says will be his last live shows ever.
Johnston’s backing band on each stop on the seven-city tour (with more dates reportedly to come) will be composed of musicians influenced by his work—including Jeff Tweedy, Built To Spill, Modern Baseball, the Districts, and members of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band—who Johnston has entrusted with hand-selecting set lists from his back catalog. Each stop on the tour will also be preceded by a screening of the 2005 documentary The Devil And Daniel Johnston, about Johnston’s life and work.
