Rhaenyra has her work cut out for her in House Of The Dragon season 3 trailer

The last season of House Of The Dragon ended with quite a bit still up in the air, without ever settling into the major battle some might have hoped for or expected. Based on the first teaser for HOTD‘s third season, which HBO shared this morning, the big battle may still be a way off, but the good old-fashioned game of Game Of Thrones political chess seems to be well underway. Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) must determine whether she can trust Alicent (Olivia Cooke)—or really anyone, for that matter.

Of course, there is still plenty of action to be found on the land, the sea, the sky. At the end of the clip, we hear Daemon (Matt Smith) tell a teary Rhaenyra, “This is the moment you become Queen.” We’d ask if it was worth it, but obtaining power in Westeros almost always is.

House Of The Dragon‘s season two finale aired in August 2024. Since then, HBO has already renewed the series for a fourth season, which will likely be its last. It seems that tensions between the network and author George R.R. Martin kinda-sorta eased between seasons, insofar as Martin has some undisclosed involvement with this new season. In any case, the new season premieres in June, with an exact date to come.
