Hulu's The Act shares trailer for its Mommy Dead And Dearest adaptation
The Act, Hulu’s new true crime anthology series, launches next month with the story of Dee Dee Blanchard and her daughter, Gypsy, whose troubled bond was explored in HBO’s unnerving 2017 documentary Mommy Dead And Dearest. Now, with the arrival of the season’s first trailer, we’re offered our first glimpse at Patricia Arquette and Joey King’s as the pair.
It’s a tight clip, but all the touchstones are there: The pills, the co-dependence, the abuse, and the courtroom, where a scared, seemingly healthy Gypsy is asked if she killed her mom. Channel Zero’s Nick Antosca served as a co-showrunner on the season with Michelle Dean, who wrote the original Buzzfeed News piece on the ordeal. AnnaSophia Robb and Chloë Sevigny co-star.
It’s a busy time for Hulu. Pen15 just premiered on the streaming service, which has spent the last week previewing the third season of The Handmaid’s Tale, as well as its upcoming adaptations of Lindy West’s Shrill and Joseph Heller’s Catch-22. Today, Hulu also revealed it’s working with Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio on a The Devil In The White City adaptation in addition to developing a handful of animated Marvel shows.
The Act premieres on March 20.
