If you only knew the power of The Dark Side Of The Moon

In August of 1995, the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette published the first article describing how in-sync 1939’s The Wizard Of Oz is with Pink Floyd’s 1973 album Dark Side Of The Moon. The article cited the Usenet group, alt.music.pink.floyd, where the concept of “Dark Side Of The Rainbow” originated. Now, thanks to Reddit, it appears that there’s a brand new way to listen to Pink Floyd’s classic album: synced up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

According to Consequence Of Sound, if the viewer drops the needle on Dark Side as soon as the opening scroll finishes, the music lines up perfectly with several scenes from the film. Of course, the prog rock favorite only runs 43 minutes, so the album needs to play three times to keep up with The Force Awakens’ 136 minute runtime.

According to the original post, some of the more interesting moments in “The Dark Side Of The Force” include the scream from “The Great Gig In The Sky” matching with Poe’s scream in Kylo Ren’s torture chamber and the lyric “I never said I was afraid of dying” playing as the camera focuses on a certain character’s death.

How these Redditors found this out is a mystery, as The Force Awakens has yet to be released to home video (as Maz Kanata said, that’s a good question for another time). The Wizard Of Oz and The Force Awakens do share some similarities, however: A female protagonist—accompanied by some charming rogues—thrust into the adventure of a lifetime, a daring rescue mission at the villain’s HQ, and even a wizard who appears to be colossal but is more than likely as diminutive as Yoda.
