Inde Navarrette says she was never actually offered Heat 2 role

Since her breakout performance in Obsession, Hollywood has been obsessed with Inde Navarrette. She was cast as Rogue in Marvel’s X-Men reboot, will host Saturday Night Live‘s upcoming Halloween episode, will star in the sci-fi thriller The Waffle House Index, and could be a contender for Best Actress at the Oscars. A few months ago, she met with two of her dream directors, Jake Schreier and Michael Mann, to discuss potential roles in their upcoming films. During a recent appearance on The Kyle Buchanan Show, Navarrette debunked the rumor that she turned down a role in Mann’s Heat 2. “Is it true that you were offered Heat 2?” Kyle Buchanan asked. In response, Navarrette said “no” and acknowledged the many headlines about it. “I’m glad that you brought it up because I can say it. No, I was not offered Heat 2,” she said. “I auditioned, I want to say, for two months from April all the way up until—I don’t know if it had gotten cast, but it was just kind of no longer a conversation.”

During the interview, Navarrette said that she wasn’t getting many projects before Obsession‘s release, but after the movie blew up at the box office, people in the industry started paying much more attention to her, and it’s been “gratifying.” In a Nylon interview published in July, the publication reported that Navarrette met with X-Men director Schreier and Mann, who was assembling his Heat 2 cast around that time. Then at D23 in August, Navarrette’s casting in X-Men was officially announced. Days later, Page Six reported that Navarrette was on the shortlist for Heat 2 but was no longer in contention because of her commitment to X-Men, leading people to assume she turned down Mann’s follow-up to his critically acclaimed 1995 crime drama for a role in the MCU. Navarrette didn’t mention which role she auditioned for, but Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Adam Driver, Jason Clarke, Odessa Young, Stephen Graham, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have all been reported as being in the running or cast in Heat 2. Elaborating on her experience, Navarrette said that she submitted “multiple self tapes” and asked for feedback. “It’s with an insane cast and even if it was as small of a character, I just wanted to learn,” Navarrette said. “Definitely didn’t say no. But I think that’s one of those opportunities where no matter how big you get, you’re still gonna get told no.”
