Inherent Vice’s Katherine Waterston to star in Universal’s Steve Jobs movie
Her big breakout performance in Inherent Vice is taking its sweet, stoned time expanding into wide release, but Deadline brings an early sign that Katherine Waterston will be 2015’s answer to Margot Robbie. Waterston has reportedly been offered the lead female role in Universal’s Aaron Sorkin-penned Steve Jobs movie Jobs, playing Job’s first wife Chrisann. (Waterston seems to have a thing for characters with quirky names—in 2014 she played both Shasta Fay Hepworth in Inherent Vice and Patricia Petals O’Neal in Glass Chin.) It’s a role that both Natalie Portman and Kate Winslet have turned down in recent weeks, in a movie that is having a difficult time hanging on to studios and directors as well as stars. With this in mind, it might not be the smartest move to cast an actress who spent most of her last big movie missing. But that would be conflating an actor with his or her character, and that would be silly. Right, Matthew McConaughey?
