Insecure (HBO, 10:30 p.m.): As season three of Issa Rae’s autobiographical sitcom dawns, Issa is living on Daniel’s couch after her break-up with Lawrence—supposedly platonically, but given the chemistry of these past lovers, a hookup seems inevitable. Plus, she may be there for awhile, as her finances are not in the greatest shape. Meanwhile, Molly’s new job at a black-owned law firm may not be the dream gig she was hoping for. Ashley Ray-Harris is on board again for weekly reviews.
The Affair (Showtime, 9 p.m.)

This season, Johnson’s Spencer Strasmore looks ready to tackle every injustice and controversy in the world of sports (possibly even anthem-kneeling). The trailer boasts that Spencer “is single-handedly changing the face of athletics,” while the mega-mentor appears to be destroying the village in order to save it: “I’m gonna take it all down, brick by brick.” Hey, if anyone can pull that off, it’s The Rock.
