It was Black Panther's night at the MTV Movie And TV Awards
Marvel’s Black Panther isn’t the kind of film that would ever sweep the Oscars, but seeing as how it inspired a teen girl to bite through her retainer at the sight of a shirtless Michael B. Jordan, it is absolutely the kind of movie that can dominate the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Right from the beginning, it was clear that this was going to be Black Panther’s night, with host Tiffany Haddish appearing in a skit referencing the ceremonial fight scene from the movie in which M’Baku challenges T’Challa for the right to rule Wakanda—except in this one it was Haddish fighting T’Challa over who got to host the MTV Movie Awards. The scene was also a crossover with Girls Trip, with Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah making cameos and joining Haddish in a TLC dance sequence, and (just for good measure) it ended with a spoiler for Infinity War.
As for the actual awards, we already reported on what happened when Black Panther’s Chadwick Boseman won Best Hero and Michael B. Jordan won Best Villain, but Boseman also won Best Performance In A Movie and Black Panther itself won Best Movie. Not to be outdone, Stranger Things cleaned up on the TV side of things, winning Best Show along with Millie Bobby Brown winning Best Performance In A TV Show (and appearing in a pre-taped acceptance speech with a bonus anti-bullying message), Noah Schnapp winning Most Frightened Performance, and the show even getting Best Musical Moment for the awkward dance scene at the end of season two with Mike and Eleven.
