It’s been a short story and it’s been a movie, but somehow, It’s A Wonderful Life has not yet come to the Broadway stage. That will change next month, with the just-announced limited run of the show, subtitled A Live Radio Play. Set in a 1940s radio station, the show will see actors performing Frank Capra’s 1946 film as a radio play, “complete with a foley artist and holiday carols,” according to a press release. Though this will be the first time the play has made it to Broadway, there’s a decent chance you have caught it somewhere else in the United States. This version was first performed in 1996, with playwright Joe Landry opting for the radio play format to make it easier for actors to double up on parts (which, ultimately, keeps costs down).
