It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia's Rob McElhenny put on 50 pounds of funny, funny fat
Typically when an actor loses or gains weight for a role, it’s an extremely Method route to really getting inside their character, like De Niro in Raging Bull, or Christian Bale in several things. But for It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney, it just seemed like a funny idea to gain 50 pounds and have his character Mac suddenly be a fat guy. Discussing the upcoming seventh season with Screen Junkies (and divulging a few more spoiler-y surprises about what to expect when the show returns in September), McElhenney’s co-star Charlie Day said that watching the dramatic weight change was “disgusting,” and that it had the rest of the cast “a little on the fence about it for his own personal health and safety.” However, Day adds that it has “definitely made Mac a lot funnier.” If you’ve also been packing on the pounds lately, maybe use the “I’m just getting funnier” excuse.
