James Corden praises the “strong, proud, caring” people of Manchester after attack

On last night’s episode of The Late Late Show, James Corden delivered a short monologue dedicated to the people of Manchester, England following news of the deadly terrorist attack at an Ariana Grande concert in the city. When Corden recorded the message after the taping of his show, details of the incident were still sparse. “It shocks me every time we hear this sort of news that attacks like this can happen, but especially when there will be so many children at this concert tonight,” he said.

In addition to remarking on the tragic circumstances, Corden also praised the “spirit” of the city, describing its football teams and the music that it’s generated over the years. “It’s a place full of comedy and curries and character,” he said. “But when I think of Manchester, the place that I know, I think of the spirit of the people there. And I’m telling you a more tight knit group of people you will be hard pressed to find—strong, proud, caring people with community at its core. And if it was even possible, the spirit of the people of Manchester will grow even stronger this evening.”

Police have now confirmed that the bombing left 22 people dead.
