Although Sean “Diddy” Combs continues to face numerous criminal charges tied up in a trial set to begin this May, at least one—a rape case brought against both him and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter—has now been dismissed. Deadline reports that the Jane Doe plaintiff in the case—who’d previously asserted that both musicians had raped her in 2000, when she was 13 years old—has now voluntarily dismissed the case with prejudice. (That last part meaning that the case can’t be brought to courts again in its current form.)

These specific accusations came to light back in December of 2024, with the Jane Doe in question stating that Combs and Carter sexually assaulted her at an afterparty for the Video Music Awards in 2000. Carter issued a lengthy statement on social media today through his Roc Nation accounts, calling the allegations “frivolous, fictitious, and appalling,” and calling the lawyer who brought the suit against him a “1-800 lawyer.” His statement—which called for the courts to “protect the innocent from being accused” while at least name-checking the idea that “The courts must protect victims, OF COURSE”—didn’t touch on the many other allegations that have been brought against Combs by the same attorney, Tony Buzbee, although Combs’ own statement today used the same insult against him. Here’s that statement from the Combs camp:
Today’s complete dismissal without a settlement by the 1-800 attorney is yet another confirmation that these lawsuits are built on falsehoods, not facts. For months, we have seen case after case filed by individuals hiding behind anonymity, pushed forward by an attorney more focused on media headlines than legal merit. Just like this claim, the others will fall apart because there is no truth to them.
Sean Combs has never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor. No number of lawsuits, sensationalized allegations, or media theatrics will change that reality. We will continue to fight these baseless claims and hold those responsible. This is just the first of many that will not hold up in a court of law.
Regardless of the nature of any civil charges against him, Combs still faces a number of criminal charges, i.e., racketeering, sex trafficking by force, and transportation for purposes of prostitution, all of which led to his arrest and detainment without bail last year. His trial is set to begin on May 5.
