Jay Z to stream his upcoming all B-sides show on Tidal
In an effort to boost his fledgling streaming service, Tidal, Jay Z has announced plans to stream his upcoming all B-sides show on the site. “Tidal X: Jay Z B-Sides” will be held in New York on May 13, and Tidal subscribers can enter to win tickets by submitting a Jay Z playlist on the site, or just watch the show live on Tidal.com. At the show, the rapper says he’ll only perform songs he either has never performed live or, at the very least, hasn’t played live in over a decade.
Tidal currently has about 770,000 subscribers, a number that Jay Z says he’s totally happy with. On Twitter over the weekend, he defended the site’s slow start, saying “the iTunes store wasn’t built in a day. It took Spotify nine years to be successful. We are here for the long haul. Please give us a chance to grow and get better.” It is worth noting, though, that earlier today Tidal raised its rates for customers who purchase the service via iTunes, something that seems pretty counterproductive anyway.
