Mean Moms is only a sequel to Mean Girls in the sense that both are film adaptations of Rosalind Wiseman’s advice books: Where Mean Girls was based on Queen Bees And Wannabes, Mean Moms takes on Queen Bee Moms And King Pin Dads: Dealing With The Parents, Teachers, Coaches, And Counselors Who Can Make—Or Break—Your Child’s Future. None of the characters of Mean Girls—not even Cool Mom Amy Poehler—will be in Mean Moms, but the film will supposedly capture the same spirit of the 2004 sensation, trading out high school drama for adult drama (which is pretty much the same brand of drama, at the end of the day).
The story centers on a happily married mother of two who is confronted by the high-stakes world of competitive parenting when she moves from her small town to the wealthy suburbs. In Mean Girls terms, that would make her the Cady. Hopefully that means there’s a Regina George-style supreme overlord mom who all the other moms want to simultaneously be/kiss/get punched in the face by/kill. As of now, it’s unknown what role Aniston will play in the film.
