Jennifer Lawrence reteams with No Hard Feelings director for new rom-com

Jennifer Lawrence’s new rom-com One Month Mark has found its director. Deadline reports that No Hard Feelings filmmaker Gene Stupnitsky is in final negotiations to direct the movie for Apple Original Films and Chernin Entertainment. The film is described as a contemporary romantic comedy, with Lawrence set to star and produce through her banner, Excellent Cadaver. The script for One Month Mark comes from Sophie Fleur de Bruijn. The logline, per Deadline, reads: “She has never made it past a month in a relationship. He has never gone longer than a month without one.” The casting for Lawrence’s love interest hasn’t been revealed yet. Lawrence’s involvement in the movie was reported back in June, and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, studios and producers were eager to get on board.

Stupnitsky has plenty of comedy experience, having served as a writer, director, and executive producer on NBC’s The Office, for which he earned three Emmy nominations. He co-wrote the scripts for the 2011 comedy Bad Teacher and the coming-of-age comedy Good Boys, an unexpected box office winner that he also directed. His 2023 R-rated sex comedy No Hard Feelings, which he directed and co-wrote with John Phillips, didn’t make a big box-office impact, but it found an audience on streaming services after its theatrical release. The film also marked a departure from Lawrence’s typical dramatic roles and franchise fare, centered on Maddie, a 32-year-old facing bankruptcy who makes a deal with a couple to date their inexperienced, socially awkward 19-year-old son (Andrew Barth Feldman) so he can gain confidence before going to Princeton University.
