In October, Showtime shared a teaser trailer for The Chi, a new series created by Emmy-winning Master Of None writer (and co-star) Lena Waithe about various people living on Chicago’s South Side. Back then, the show was pitched as a “powerful coming-of-age drama about an interconnected group of working-class African-Americans on Chicago’s volatile South Side,” and this trailer gives us a better glimpse of that interconnected group than the earlier teaser did. We see kids dealing with societal pressures, a guy who is apparently a cop dealing with having a gun in his face, and a chef who is clearly going through some stuff that isn’t explicitly specified but is probably pretty rough.
The Chi’s cast includes Jason Mitchell, Jacob Latimore, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, and Alex Hibbert, It’ll premiere on Showtime on January 7 next year.
