It’s a grim but no doubt cathartic development for SNL writer Fowlie and his family, who haven’t had contact with Downer since November of 2025. Following her disappearance, Fowlie sent out a public plea for information, with his post being amplified by fellow Saturday Night Live personnel like Chloe Fineman, Bowen Yang, Sarah Sherman, Ashley Padilla, James Austin Johnson, Ego Nwodim, Heidi Gardner, and Celeste Yim. In April of 2026, Fowlie posted that the LAPD was certain Downer was “no longer alive” and once more sought help in attaining any information related to her murder. As he wrote at the time, “Our prayers for her to be found safely have transformed into prayers for the truth to be revealed and for those responsible to be held accountable. We have reason to believe that in the weeks before she went missing, her phone and social media were compromised. The individual(s) in possession of her phone used it to hide the fact she was gone, to ask for money and to create a false narrative that she was going ‘off the grid.'” Downer’s cell phone washed up on a Santa Monica beach not long after.
Brandon and Markowski are being held on $2 million bail. Fowlie has been on the Saturday Night Live writing staff since 2022, where he created the popular “Domingo” sketches among others. As actor, Fowlie has appeared on shows like The Other Two, Search Party, and The Goldbergs and recently co-wrote (with SNL colleague Ceara O’Sullivan) the feature film Roommates, starring Sadie Sandler, Chloe East, Nick Kroll, and Natasha Lyonne.
