Joe Strummer biopic in the works
A biopic about late Clash frontman Joe Strummer is in the works, according to Screen Daily, who reports that the script—tentatively titled Joe Public, which is bad news for the makers of the inevitable biopic about the Buffalo-based New Jack Swing band—will come from Paul Viragh, known for his recent Andy Serkis-starring Ian Dury bio Sex & Drugs & Rock ‘N’ Roll. The production is backed by Film4, the same company behind Trainspotting and 24 Hour Party People, among many other quality films about people on drugs and some that were not, and is only in the early stages, leaving plenty of room for speculation about who should play him. Consequence Of Sound has put in a request for “no James Franco,” while Stereogum, after doing the same for Robert Pattinson, has suggested future Spider-Man Andrew Garfield or Bright Star’s Ben Whishaw. Meanwhile, the “Donald Glover for Joe Strummer” campaign starts here, because we are dumb. [via NME]
