In the latest cultural development that just about sums up where our culture is at and makes one yearn for a very long, preferably eternal nap, the mascot for Meta’s AI agent Muse, Jolly, has become the subject of sexualized memes—and some are being posted by Meta employees as part of an apparent effort to virally promote Muse. This comes via Futurism, which reports that Alexandr Wang, Chief AI Officer of Meta Platforms and co-lead of Meta Superintelligence Labs, has been “relentlessly posting” AI-generated memes of Jolly in various compromising positions instead of whatever the hell it is a “Chief AI Officer of Meta” does. Maybe that is their job. We can’t say.
But what we can tell you is that some of these memes are downright funky, with one image featuring Jolly—a furry obscenity that resembles an Ewok genetically spliced with a baked bean after it’s been dropped on the floor—pointing its bare ass “teasingly” in the viewer’s direction. Comments that parody Adam Levine’s infamous DMs are presented beneath Jolly’s fuzzy tush and read, “Holy fucking fuck […] That body of yours is absurd.” Here’s one that shows Jolly in bed with two guys who kind of look like Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor, suggesting that Jolly is meant to represent Zendaya in the three-way makeout scene from the 2024 movie, Challengers. “so [sic] which of you is better at tennis?” Wang’s post reads. At least one social media user’s taken the bait, quoting over Wang’s X post with a generated image of Jolly doing that “White Couch Meme,” because what the hell else should we be doing with our one life?
Meta’s sleazy strategy to generate interest in Jolly, and by extension Muse, could be working in its favor. GitHub and Spotify have joined the Jolly train, posting vastly more prudish versions of the Jolly meme on X to promote the integration of Muse into their platforms. This “sexy Jolly” era we unfortunately find ourselves in comes as Meta threatens to bring the butt-wiggling mascot into our real flesh-space, with Futurism noting the tech giant has unveiled Muse Charm, its “Tamagotchi-like device” designed to allow users to tote their “companion-slash-personal-assistant”—which can be assigned a customizable voice—to wherever life takes them. No doubt that will include coffee shops, movie theaters, subways, parks, and all the public spaces that have already been rendered uninhabitable by meme-brained clout-chasers and the usual battery of folks who think their devices should be shared with every stranger they encounter.
