Democracy ain’t looking so hot these days. Between the near-constant reports of people being deported to El Salvador extrajudicially for having Autism Awareness tattoos and President Trump threatening the country with an unconstitutional third term, it’s pretty safe to say that the damage done today will probably outlive us all. That’s all well and good for the losers in the future, but DOGE is firing people today. Thousands of federal workers were on the wrong side of Trump’s old catchphrase as the administration made America great again by slashing jobs across the government and putting Americans out of work. Curiously, despite the next-level fuck up from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth last week, no one on that notorious war planning text chain is on the chopping block. Is that because they did nothing wrong or because they knew how to respond to DOGE’s “five things you did this week” email challenge? Jon Stewart thinks it’s the former.

On tonight’s Daily Show, Stewart recapped the last week, focusing on how the gang of Signal users skirted accountability for such blatant and dangerous incompetence. From blaming Joe Biden to blaming Hillary Clinton and blaming your co-worker else to simply saying, “What the hell are you talking about—it’s that guy’s responsibility,” Stewart laid out a five-point fool-proof response to any Muskrats asking people to justify their jobs. Unfortunately, the case study wasn’t that helpful. Apparently, “the buck stops nowhere” has served the White House pretty well, and until someone does something about the wealthiest man in the world paying people to vote in Wisconsin, the buck isn’t stopping anywhere.
