When it comes to making a public apology, offering contrition and then stepping out of the spotlight for a little bit tends to be the best option. For Karla Sofía Gascón, this wasn’t completely possible, given that she was in the midst of an Oscar campaign for Best Actress when her racist tweets were unearthed. After Emilia Pérez director Jacques Audiard publicly asked her to stop making it worse, she relented for the rest of the campaign. But now the campaign is over, and Gascón can say whatever she wants without damaging the awards chances of the rest of the Emilia Pérez cast and crew.
