Kellyanne Conway gets a talking-to for shilling Ivanka Trump products
The Trump administration may be willfully ignorant and apocalyptic in its thinking, but it’s not suicidal. We know that because this afternoon, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that Trump lapdog Kellyanne Conway had been “counseled” after telling Fox & Friends viewers it was their patriotic duty to line the president’s family’s pockets after Nordstrom dropped the Ivanka Trump brand, something the President of the United States of America should definitely be thinking about during his daily intelligence briefing. Specifically, she told viewers to “go buy Ivanka’s stuff”:
Now, beyond the fact that a lot of Ivanka Trump’s stuff is overpriced and dumpy, elected officials are forbidden from endorsing products, whether the president’s favorite daughter slaps her name on them or not, by the Office of Government Ethics. The punishment for violating these rules ranges from a warning to being fired outright, and Conway has apparently had her warning after House Oversight and Government Reform Committee ranking member Elijah Cummings requested disciplinary action be taken against her for her blatant shilling.
Asked about the conflict of interest by a reporter, Spicer said, “Kellyanne has been counseled and that’s all we’re going to go with. She has been counseled on that subject—and that’s it.” Hopefully they gave the woman a day off to go shopping along with it. See you at the bargain bin, Kellyanne!
