A conjuring spell is forming for Practical Magic 3

Despite some former cast members being subjected to a banishment hex for no discernible reason, Practical Magic 2 has, by all accounts, been a warm and welcoming production. As its returning co-stars, Dune enthusiast Nicole Kidman and Vegemite newbie Sandra Bullock, continue their press tour to promote the film’s September 10 release, the mutual respect the actors have shown each other as they professionally reunite for the first time since 1998 has left both eager to keep the magic alive.

According to a rather pleasant feature in The New York Times, a conjuring spell to bring Practical Magic 3 into the world seems to be forming, though for now, this spell has yet to be cast by those who decide such matters. For the piece, Kidman, Bullock, and co-stars Joey King and Maisie Williams convened via video call to discuss the Susanne Bier-directed sequel, sharing kind compliments and generally being sweet to each other, when the discussion turned to the prospects of a sequel, for no self-respecting witching series should end on an even number; it simply isn’t done.

When asked by Times interviewer Ashley Spencer about the potential to spin a sequel from the unreleased Practical Magic 2, the entire cast jumped at the idea. “It warrants a third,” Bullock said. Kidman agreed, noting frustration with 2‘s apparent truncation of story arcs, which will certainly wound those going into the film eager for an epic-length exploration of new co-star Lee Pace’s sideplot. “The biggest frustration was that [the sequel] couldn’t be longer,” she said. “There were so many tangents we could have gone off on.” To witch—sorry, which—Bullock concurred. “The material is there.”
