Lance Oppenheim shares scrapped, spookily retro title sequence for Primetime

Although it’s been a tad eclipsed, of late, by his more recent film offering in the United States, Lance Oppenheim’s Chris-Hansen-as-played-as-a-sort-of-lizard-man-by-Robert-Pattinson thriller Primetime is only just now rolling out abroad. (Part of A24’s apparently deliberate strategy to drive U.K. film fans nuts by not releasing some of the studio’s most-hyped movies of 2026 until a month or more after they got their initial premieres.) To celebrate the movie traveling across the pond, Oppenheim shared a fun little bonus for fans (new and old) of the film: The movie’s original, scrapped title sequence, which presents a very trippy trip through its cast (as well as a little time with a focused and running Pattinson.)

Repeating the frequent maxim that filmmakers have to kill their darlings, Oppenheim writes that “Here’s a darling that hurts to let go.” Besides answering the question of where the footage of a jogging Pattinson that showed up in trailers was supposed to appear in the movie, the sequence also lays down some serious retro horror vibes, as it dissolves into stills from the movie tinged in nightmarish colors. (Among other things, setting the score for some of the highly creative camera work Oppenheim and his team used to create the film’s distinctive look, tools that included, at at least one point, the use of a colonoscopy camera.) It’s also just unabashedly throwback, not just in its visuals, but in its simple existence as a lengthy, non-narrative credits sequence, which have fallen out of favor in modern Hollywood.

Oppenheim credits his long-time editor Daniel Gerber and well-known credits designer Teddy Blanks (who also designed the titles for You Can See Everything) for the sequence. (He also reminds viewers in the United States that the movie is still hanging on in at least a few select theaters if they want to join their U.K. friends in catching it in the theater while they can.)
