Realizing it hasn't made a Leprechaun in eight years, Lionsgate announces latest reboot

“Rich” is certainly one way to describe the world of Leprechaun, which has been relegated to a 24-hour movie marathon on Syfy every St. Patrick’s Day. The movies typically revolve around finding some element of Leprechaun lore and turning it into a way to kill the monster, who’s always on a hunt for his pot of gold, a bride, or a good bong rip. Warwick Davis, who popularized the role by being willing to meet his adoring public at fan conventions for the last 40 years, hasn’t polished his buckles since 2003’s Leprechaun: Back 2 Tha’ Hood. But that hasn’t stopped WWE from making Leprechaun: Origins in 2014 or Lionsgate from producing a straight-to-DVD legacy sequel, Leprechaun Returns, in 2017. Both were reviled by critics and ignored by audiences, but they do offer the faint stench of rights management. Lionsgate has announced numerous attempts at managing its Leprechaun rights in recent years, with the latest announcement coming in 2024, when Felipe Vargas took a seat in the director’s chair, only to get up a year later. What more is there to say about the supposedly upcoming Leprechaun sequel than “Good luck.”
