Lionsgate selling movie tickets on TikTok now
Introducing Endless Mode: A New Games & Anime Site from Paste

Studios used to care a lot about unauthorized movie footage popping up on social media, but the viral success of pirated clips from films like Wicked and Deadpool & Wolverine may have been a turning point for that old gripe. The philosophy now seems to be: If it gets butts in seats, why not? Last month, A Minecraft Movie director Jared Hess not only lauded the proliferation of absolutely feral in-theater chicken jockey videos as “so funny,” but further expressed that he was “just glad people are making memories with their friends and families.” Now, Lionsgate is taking that “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” attitude one step further and selling movie tickets through TikTok itself.

Currently, John Wick fans can buy a ticket to upcoming spinoff Ballerina right in the TikTok shop. The news comes from IndieWire, which notes that the studio isn’t diverting business from traditional ticket vendors like Fandango with the stunt. Anyone watching the livestream of the Ballerina premiere in London (happening today, May 22) will be able to purchase a merch bundle directly within the app. The package includes a physical ticket printed with a Fandango code redeemable for any showtime, as well as a collectible Continental Hotel coin and exclusive Fandango Ballerina poster.

For now, the package costs $34.99 and tickets (or other items) can’t be purchased individually. The outlet notes that this is the first sale of its kind, however, and it’s not unreasonable to think that other studios may replicate it in the future, with or without Fandango as a middleman. That Subway Surfers movie meme is looking less far-fetched by the day.
