Looks like there’s going to be more Dorne on Game Of Thrones next year

Season five of Game Of Thrones took viewers to Dorne, home of the beautiful rolling hills, scenic water gardens, and gross exchanges between Bronn and the Sand Snakes. And even though it was easily the most marginal of the main locations in terms of screen time, season six looks to be giving us more Dorne. Variety reports filming next season will entail even more locations in Spain, the country that acts as the real-life stand-in for the sandy kingdom.

Along with previously announced locations in Girona and Peñiscola, the production has added “the Bardenas badlands in Navarre, the castles of Santa Florentina and Zafra, and Almeria’s Alcazaba.” Those all sound very Spanish, so presumably no one got the nation wrong by accident. A quick Google search reveals desert-like rock formations and a few massive castles, respectively, so season six probably doesn’t jump forward in time 300 years to take place on spaceships. As always, no word on the locations’ relevance to plots, characters, or anything else that might be useful, so we’ll just have to content ourselves with the knowledge that we’ll see some lovely scenery, anyway.

Season six of Game Of Thrones begins filming in Belfast, Ireland at the end of this month.
