Daffy and Porky find homeownership despicable in exclusive The Day The Earth Blew Up clip

What’s up, doc?

The Day The Earth Blew Up, the first Looney Tunes feature that isn’t an omnibus of Merrie Melodies, finally hits, well, Earth this week. To celebrate the Earth finally blowing up, The A.V. Club is debuting an exclusive clip featuring two of our greatest living movie stars, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, who have only just realized that there’s a giant hole in their roof. No one said homeownership was going to be easy. It’s something taught in those Three Little Pigs cartoons, which, somehow, Porky didn’t book. In this clip, Daffy and Porky finally notice the hole and some sticky green sludge that’s collecting around the damage.

The Day The Earth Blew Up finally puts Daffy and Porky in the driver’s seat as the lead of their own movie. Though many would assume Bugs Bunny stars of the very first feature-length Merrie movie, it’s a job for the descendants of Duck Dodgers of the 24 1/2th Century. Here, they have to save the world and their home and live up to the standards of one Farmer Jim.

Subject to numerous delays (though none as extreme as Coyote Vs. Acme, The Day The Earth Blew Up heads to theaters amid a hostile time for Looney Tunes. For a solid year after the Acme controversy, it seemed like we’d never see the Looney Tunes in their element ever again. After all, if a movie starring John Cena and Wile E. Coyote is perceived as unsellable, what hope does Daffy Duck have? Yet, with an updated look, a tight focus, and an always-game Porky Pig, one hopes the Tunes will make more Merrie Melodies for years to come.

The Day The Earth Blew Up opens in theaters Friday.
