Lost numbers actually pay off in Mega Millions lottery
Taking inspiration from Lost’s Hurley—without, apparently, paying attention to what actually happened to him—some 9,078 people entered last night’s Mega Millions using the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42, the mythologically-important-then-ultimately-not-so-important sequence that made Hurley a billionaire before ruining his life and trapping him on island, where the numbers were then revealed to be a part of a doomsday-predicting calculation known as the Valenzetti Equation.
But even though apocalypse is definitely in the air these days, none of that stuff happened; instead, all of the fans who played their Lost numbers (which, frankly, they’ve probably been doing for years now) netted themselves around $150 when the numbers paid off. Well, sort of paid off: The actual winning sequence was 4, 8, 15, 25, 47, and 42, but those matching four numbers were enough to get them something, if not a life-destroying fortune. In another eerie coincidence, the two jackpot-winning tickets representing $177.5 million each have been described as a “near-record sum”—just like Hurley’s jackpot was on Lost. It’s all coming true! We’re all probably dead right now! Everybody hug!
