Micky Dolenz clarifies that Breaking Bad's use of a Monkees song doesn't mean he condones meth

Among the many questions raised by this past Sunday's episode of Breaking Bad, surely the most pertinent was, "I wonder if the inclusion of The Monkees' 'Goin' Down' in a pivotal sequence means that original Monkees member Micky Dolenz condones meth?" Fortunately, The Hollywood Reporter asked Dolenz himself: "I certainly don't condone meth—that is nasty stuff that kills a lot of people and ruins a lot of lives," Dolenz said while definitely not doing any meth.

Dolenz also addressed other questions that have likely been the source of fan speculation for the last two days, including, "Does original Monkees member Micky Dolenz like Breaking Bad?" ("I like the TV show, it's very well-made," he says.) And also, "Will original Monkees member Micky Dolenz make any money from his song's usage in Breaking Bad?" ("And no, I didn't make a penny," Dolenz adds, owing to the fact that the Monkees long ago forfeited any rights to their recordings and images, and the fact that Micky Dolenz doesn't manufacture and sell meth.) As a reminder, The Monkees recently announced a reunion tour, during which they will do tons and tons of meth.
