Having already ridden the proverbial rails to fame on the back of the old Woody Guthrie standard, “Party In The U.S.A.,” ramblin’ country mouse Miley Cyrus will follow that natural, winding progression through America’s musical heartland toward doing a Bob Dylan song. Cyrus is the latest addition to the upcoming charity album Chimes Of Freedom: Songs Of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years Of Amnesty International, with all proceeds helping to liberate the world from the daily prison of not hearing Miley Cyrus sing a Bob Dylan song. Joining her will be artists like Patti Smith, Sting, My Morning Jacket, Dave Matthews Band, and Adele, as well as her fellow wanderer down trails of dusty glitter, Ke$ha, who will tackle Dylan’s break-up-then-get-drunk-with-your-girlfriends anthem, “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright.”
Perhaps sensing there may be some reservations about her inclusion, Ke$ha for her part has already addressed any potential naysayers, arguing that Dylan is “a huge influence. He writes his own music and means what he says. I write my own music and I fucking mean every word I sing”—especially when she sings, “Stop talking that blah blah blah / Think you'll be getting this nah nah nah / Not in the back of mycar-ar-ar,” which is about harmful partisan political rhetoric or maybe the environment. Cyrus has yet to announce which song she’ll be singing, but it’ll probably be one of the Jesus-y ones.
