Netflix hires Grace Reiter's American High for Minimum Wage

With ensemble member Grace Reiter already breaking out in her first season on Saturday Night Live, Netflix has signed the comic and her American High YouTube sketch comedy team to the new short-form sitcom Minimum Wage. Set in a small town pizza shop staffed by harried and (as the title hints) underpaid teens, the mockumentary-style workplace sitcom is based on the webseries of the same name, with each of the series’ 14-episode first season running a brisk 12 and a half minutes.

In the first trailer for the new series from creator Jeremy Garelick (The Break-Up), the rag-tag crew finds their daily routine of disastrous 10-minutes-or-it’s-free deliveries and walk-in freezer prank wars overturned by the arrival of absentee chain owner Randall Park. With a ticking clock to make Slice Club profitable before it’s shut down, the workplace layabouts cope with poorly implemented valet service, a Michael Scott-style GPS vs. lake mishap, rude customers, money troubles, and the fact that there seems to be an actual fight club in the shop’s parking lot.

The series stars Reiter, Ryan Micho, Aidan Micho, Julia Dicesare, Luke Burke, Hyde Healy, and Tommy Armstrong, with invaluable pop-ins from guest star Park (who knows something about running a run-down retail outlet). Minimum Wage premieres on October 26 on Netflix.
