Netflix to enable viewers to binge on food porn
Netflix is making its first foray into original docu-series with a show catering to people who post pictures of everything they eat on Instagram. The series, Chef’s Table, will premiere in 2015 and consist of six episodes, each profiling one of the world’s foremost culinary artists. Here’s the lineup, according to The Hollywood Reporter:
Ben Shewry (Attica Restaurant, Melbourne, Australia)
Magnus Nilsson (Fäviken, Järpen, Sweden)
Francis Mallmann (El Restaurante Patagonia Sur; Buenos Aires, Argentina),
Niki Nakayama (N/Naka Restaurant; Los Angeles, Calif.),
Dan Barber (Blue Hill Restaurant at Stone Barns; New York, N.Y.)
Massimo Bottura (Osteria Francescana; Modena, Italy)
Netflix VP of original documentary and comedy Lisa Nishimura describes Chef’s Table as “the best in nonfiction storytelling” and says, “While some stories are best told as feature length films, others, like Chef’s Table, greatly benefit from being able to communicate their story in a multi-episodic fashion.”
Jiro Dreams Of Sushi director David Gelb will helm the series, ensuring gorgeous, sensual cinematography that will allow viewers look down periodically at the frozen pizzas on their laps and sigh wistfully.
