Netflix's summer rom-coms were huge hits

Those genius innovators at Netflix have stumbled onto yet another earth-shattering revelation about the entertainment business: People really like it when attractive, charming people say funny things while falling in love. Netflix announced today that its recent spate of romantic comedies—including To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, Set It Up, Sierra Burgess Is A Loser, The Kissing Booth, and Like Father—have been watched by more than 80 million subscribers, often multiple times.

We’re guessing that’s a lot, in terms of overall viewership—the company supposedly only has 118 million subscribers total, so most of its users apparently checked at least one of the movies out—but it does have to only be a guess, since Netflix never releases individual streaming numbers unless they make the company look really, really good. The streaming service did say To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before was an especially big hit over the “Summer Of Love,” becoming one of its “most viewed original films ever.”

The company also touted its social media influence at the same time, releasing a chart of its various younger stars’ Instagram follower counts before and after the release of their big starring roles. (Unsurprisingly, they got bigger afterward.) Remember, Millie Bobby Brown: Netflix made you (on Instagram). It can break you (on Instagram), too.
