It’s been five years since Fat Wreck Chords—the label co-owned by Fat Mike of NOFX along with Erin Burkett—released a compilation under its Fat Music banner. But as the label celebrates its 25th anniversary with a two-day festival and accompanying summer tour, it’s also resuscitated Fat Music with Fat Music Vol. 8: Going Nowhere Fat. The compilation brings together Fat bands both old and new, and The A.V. Club is streaming Night Birds’ contribution, “Left In The Middle,” ahead of Going Nowhere Fat’s release on August 7. The track fits right into Night Birds’ style of surfy hardcore, making quick work of riffs that feel as if they were culled from an early-‘80s SoCal hardcore record, but with the band’s own pop inclinations dashed in.
