The Switch 2 is reverting to its last save. Despite uncertainty over the new console’s price (and, y’know, the future of global trade) after Donald Trump’s tariff tantrum earlier this month, the Switch 2 will retain its previously announced $450 price point in the U.S., per The Hollywood Reporter. The same unfortunately can’t be said for its corresponding accessories, which “will experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions,” as the company shared in a statement.
Those price adjustments won’t hurt customers’ pockets too badly in the grand scheme of things—at least for now. The individual costs of accessories like a Joy-Con 2 pair or Pro Controller are only rising between $5 and $10, but the company did specify that “other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions.” While not unexpected, that’s still a scary door to leave open as those “market conditions” are in the hands of a man whose whims seem to change by the minute.
At least we know that pre-orders in the U.S. are officially back on after Nintendo paused them two weeks ago. Customers hoping to get their hands on the shiny new console as quickly as possible can officially put in their orders starting April 24, with deliveries expected to stay on track with the console’s original June release schedule.
Anyone anxious about the constant fluctuation of the economy may find some solace in the Switch’s new design, which is conversely “an impressive, smart, and above all safe iteration on things that have already worked before,” as The A.V. Club‘s William Hughes wrote in his write-up of a Nintendo preview event. Before you fork over your $450+, however, consider the implications of that stability: “There are no red flags here—at least as long as you’re not looking at price tags. And that, paradoxically, is a bit of a letdown,” Hughes continued. “From a company of unlikely risk-takers, that’s just a little bit sad to see.” You can read his full write-up here.
