No, George Lucas doesn't believe the world will end in 2012, don't be ridiculous

A Lucasfilm rep has been dispatched to counter all of this week’s Seth Rogen-spawned “George Lucas Believes The World Will End In 2012” headlines, and not surprisingly the official response is that, no, Lucas doesn’t believe in that stuff, don’t be silly. Interestingly, the statement (received via e-mail to Wired) doesn’t deny that Lucas talked about the Mayan-predicted end of the world, as Rogen claimed he did for around 25 minutes, but rather says that he was “not serious” while doing so, instead engaging in some sort of prolonged, jokey banter, we guess, perhaps while fantasizing he’d wandered into a Judd Apatow film.

Lucasfilm spokesperson Lynne Hale then gently chastised the blog-fueled gossip mill and got in a few digs at the tabloid ridiculousness of it all—along with a few other pervasive Lucas-related rumors—saying, “He is an adamant believer that the world is flat, that Stonehenge was built by aliens, and that the sun revolves around the Earth. These are among the many subjects he commonly discusses at length with Elvis, who he’s going to digitally insert into Indy 5 along with a roster of famous dead actors.” Ha ha, ho ho. She concludes by adding, “Seth Rogen is a funny guy, but George and Steven [Spielberg] are taking Chris Rock with them on the Millennium Falcon!” So… George Lucas is remaking Star Wars with Chris Rock as Han Solo? That idiot! Lucas garble farble!
