Pauly Shore's new stand-up special is going straight to PS5

With Netflix still throwing multimillion-dollar deals at the world’s edgiest comics, and Comedy Central staging its return to stand-up on YouTube, Sony is eager to get in on the act, especially if it can bring attention to its fledgling FAST initiative, “Live TV on PS5.” And who better to draw eyeballs to the PlayStation Store’s exclusive content than The Weasel, Pauly Shore? The comedian’s latest half-hour special, Road Comic: Live From Portland, is coming straight to the PlayStation 5 on November 1 for a two-and-a-half-week exclusive run—before it lands on his YouTube page on November 17.

PlayStation’s Live TV functionality launched only a month ago, and it’s another marker on the descent back to ad-supported television—or as ancient civilizations called it 15 years ago: television. Branded as “Live TV on PS5,” the feature connects users to FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels, similar to the Roku Channel, TUBI, and Pluto. But Sony isn’t simply wheezing the juice from Shore alone. Still in its infancy, Live TV on PS5 has a very slim, but appropriately deranged exclusive library. Such titles include Roast Battle League: From The Mothership, Adam Ray’s Dr. Phil Live: “We’ll Be Right Back,” specials from comedians Jack Jr. and Jeremiah Watkins, and all three seasons of Louie Anderson’s Saturday morning cartoon, Life With Louie. Actually, that last one is a big selling point.
