Comedy Central is releasing hour-long stand-up specials again, starting with Chloe Radcliffe

Though it's heading straight to YouTube, Radcliffe's new special, Eyes Down Here, will break Comedy Central's dry spell of hour-long stand-up

Comedy Central is releasing hour-long stand-up specials again, starting with Chloe Radcliffe

It’s been six years since Comedy Central last aired an hour-long stand-up special. Since the 2020 release of Joe List’s I Hate Myself, Comedy Central has mostly leaned on round-the-clock marathons of reruns of The Office and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. But at least on the network’s YouTube channel, stand-up is making a comeback. Following last week’s announcement that it’s launching a YouTube stand-up series, Stand-Up Selects, today, the network announced a brand-new special from Chloe Radcliffe: Eyes Down Here.

Radcliffe is one of America’s most promising up-and-coming stand-ups, one who previously wrote for The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon and starred opposite Bradley Cooper in Is This Thing On?. She also writes jokes and doesn’t solely rely on crowd work. In her debut hour, Eyes Down Here, she gets the obvious out of the way in the title: Yes, she has a birthmark on her cheek. Radcliffe’s differences drive her comedy as she, per the logline, “takes a hard look at flirting when you don’t fit in.”

The special, which as of now is going straight to Comedy Central’s YouTube channel, is the first hour of stand-up from Comedy Central in some time and part of the network’s overall turnaround. Comedy Central used to be one of three main distributors of hour-long stand-up specials, behind HBO and Showtime. But in recent years, it has ceded that space to streamers like Netflix and Hulu. However, bolstered by strong returning audiences for The Daily Show and South Park, Comedy Central is leaning harder into what was working before the station began overdosing on Workaholics blocks. It recently announced new installments of Drunk History and another season of the new (and really good) iteration of Beavis And Butt-Head.

Radcliffe’s new hour, Eyes Down Here, hits Comedy Central’s YouTube page on October 27.
