Peacock panic cancels Hysteria! after one season

Viewers won’t have Hysteria! to get all worked up about anymore. Per Variety, Peacock has canceled its Satanic Panic-based slasher series, Hysteria!, after a single season. Despite the show being well-liked by The A.V. Club, which called Hysteria! a “fun spooky-season treat,” eight episodes were all Peacock could stomach.

An 80s period piece in the Stranger Things mold, the show explored the Satanic Panic of Happy Hollow, MI, where a varsity quarterback’s disappearance unleashes the titular hysteria. But it also allows a young local heavy metal band to exploit people’s fear of the devil with some headbanging tunes, fashioning themselves as a Satanic cult and creating even more chaos for the locals. The series starred Julie Bowen, Bruce Campbell, and Anna Camp. However, the show had a hell of a time getting to air. It was given the green light in August 2022 before going into production the following year. The strikes paused filming of the series, which resumed production in late 2023 and aired on Peacock last October.
