Penelope Cruz does Donatella in our first look at her American Crime Story character

Although there have been some paparazzi photos from the set, today Entertainment Weekly has a first official photo of Penelope Cruz in full Donatella Versace regalia, stick-straight blonde hair and all. Cruz is playing the designer in the upcoming installment of American Crime Story, which will tackle the circumstances surrounding the murder of Donatella’s brother Gianni. The image shows Cruz posing with a don’t fuck with me face beside a pair of anonymous sculpted abs and bulges:

And although we have no footage to reveal exactly what Cruz is bringing to the Ryan Murphy project, we can already start to judge how she’ll rank against the Donatellas that have come before, including Gina Gershon’s unintentionally hilarious Lifetime version and Maya Rudolph’s intentionally hilarious Saturday Night Live impression.
