Pianos Become The Teeth celebrate spring with a Record Store Day single
Last year, Baltimore’s Pianos Become The Teeth released Keep You, its third full-length and most marked sonic departure. Much was made of singer Kyle Durfey’s change in vocal style, as he omitted the full-throated screams of the band’s early work as he moved into a plaintive singing style that few could have guessed he possessed. On April 18 Epitaph Records will release a Record Store Day 7-inch called “Close” featuring two previously unreleased tracks from the Keep You sessions.
The A.V. Club is premiering the video for ”895” ahead of its release this Saturday. Fitting right in with the tracks that ended up on Keep You, “895” shows that it wasn’t cut from the album’s sequence due to quality issues. The video, which focuses on the harsh winter in the band’s native Maryland, mirrors the track’s tone, building slowly until it reaches a punishing climax. Those lucky enough to snag a copy of “Close” will also be treated to “Dancing,” a song that, if Pianos’ history is any indication, is probably not all that danceable.
