Seth Rogen may be elevating The Studio‘s satire with his premium slapstick falling skills, but don’t forget there’s another Apple TV+ series that features his brand of hilariously grievous injuries. Rogen’s not the one who gets hurt in the Platonic teaser, but a bloody injury on the golf course indicates that the show’s second season—premiering August 6— will have plenty of outrageous physical gags to tide us over after The Studio concludes this week.
Platonic follows Will (Rogen) and his college bestie Sylvia (Rose Byrne) who reunite after a period of estrangement. Unfortunately for everyone around them (and for anyone in range of Will’s dangerous golf putt), their friendship tends to be regressive and alienating for anyone who ends up in their orbit. Together, they enjoy getting high, fucking around, and stumbling into shenanigans. The thesis of Platonic isn’t just that men and women can be friends; it’s that “men and women can also be awful, co-dependent, selfish friends who spread their destructive messes into everyone else’s lives,” The A.V. Club‘s Cindy White wrote in her B+ review of the first season. “And weirdly, that feels like progress.”
