The past 11 months have been marred by massive problems like the threat of thermonuclear war, inadequate response to gun violence, inadequate response to natural disasters, sexual assault revelations, and human rights violations—to name a few. In troubling times like these, people are being encouraged to speak out and engage with the political process. But, as On The Media’s Brooke Gladstone tells us, engagement has to go beyond clicking “like” on social media. The best ways to engage with the political process, she says, are to call your congressperson, work for a candidate you believe in, and target specific issues that are of importance to you.
