Netflix puts its spin on Grey's Anatomy recipe in Pulse trailer

The medical procedural never went out of style, but it’s taken this long for the streaming studios to—as the kids are saying—reheat network TV’s nachos. Max made waves this season with its first-ever medical procedural The Pitt, and now Netflix is getting in on the game starting April 3. The Pulse trailer teases everything a Grey’s Anatomy stan could want: toxic workplace romance; Competition over the Chief Resident role; found-family dynamics in the trainee class; and a major natural disaster that puts all the doctors to the test.

“As a hurricane barrels towards Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) is unexpectedly thrust into a promotion when beloved Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended,” reads a Netflix synopsis for Pulse. “Amid the worsening storm and an onslaught of trauma cases, the hospital goes into lockdown, and Danny and Phillips must find a way to work together – even as the bombshell details of a complicated and illicit romance between them begin to spill out. The rest of the ER is left to process the fallout of their relationship while balancing their own challenges, both personal and professional, as they work under the pressure of life-or-death stakes. Because for this tight-knit group of doctors, saving their patients’ lives is often less complicated than living their own.”

The Pulse trailer really leans into the classics, including high-stakes medical crises occurring in high-pressure environments. For example: the power goes off (presumably from that hurricane) while Danny is in the middle of a procedure, meaning she has to continue with no ultrasound. Surprise—with her skills and the faith of her illicit lover she’s able to make it work. Yes, the Grey’s nachos are definitely being reheated, but when the recipe is this timeless and delicious, who can complain?
