The story of Toronto’s PUP is a classic rock ‘n’ roll tale, one that saw the band members quit their day jobs and dedicate themselves to the rigmarole of band life. The gambit paid off, with PUP getting scooped up by SideOneDummy Records for the band’s debut, a no-frills, self-titled affair that was released in April. The album opener “Guilt Trip” sets the stage for the album with its defiant power chord chugs and sing-along choruses. It’s fitting that the video for “Guilt Trip” takes the rock ‘n’ roll romanticism of PUP’s origin and dramatizes it, bringing the Toronto punk band together as kids, united through a series of misfortunes that turn the innocent adolescents into the beer-guzzling bunch it is today.
The A.V. Club is premiering the Chandler Levack & Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux directed video for “Guilt Trip,” which can be found below along with the dates for PUP’s tour with The Menzingers.
